Work has to be a place of creating value for customers, of productivity, of validating one’s ability to contribute to a team and the success of an organization. But I believe we can, and we have to be, more. It can also be a place of support where employees feel they have the foundation and help of a diverse team of workers who together form part of an entity greater than themselves.
Diversity and Inclusion is more than just one of our company values. This concept has to be woven into our daily lives.
Our North America Diversity & Inclusion Council’s mission is to cultivate and foster a respectful environment where everyone feels safe to be their authentic self. An environment where you feel safe to be who you are, to share your ideas and express yourself among your peers. Break down barriers, shatter stereotypes. It doesn't get more powerful than that.
In the weeks ahead, we will be working closely with our North America D&I Council, our Black Employee Resource Group (BERG), as well as each of the employee resource groups to further promote equality and advance our dialogue around social justice. As an equal opportunity employer, Avery Dennison will do everything in our power to ensure a fair work environment that matches the diversity of the communities in which we operate.
Our CEO, Mitch Butier recently outlined Avery Dennison’s position in two letters to employees. You can read them here.
This path we are on is long, and we’re just getting started. Because this issue is too important to just paper over with earnest statements, I feel the imperative to demonstrate our commitment. In the coming weeks, I will return to this space to tell you more about our plans to make our company part of a future that we can all be proud of.
